Meet Mr. West
I have always been involved in education; however, it has not always been in science. When I was 13, I joined a martial arts school and fell in love with it. I achieved the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. I opened my first dojang (korean for karate school) after I achieved my 1st Degree Black Belt and began opening many locations after I achieved my 4th Degree Black Belt. I was responsible for teaching over 500 students each week. After several surgeries and challenges of advertisement, I decided to enter the teaching profession.
I have always loved science and my original major was Biology before switching in my senior year. I graduated from the best school in the state: "North Carolina State University". I have been working in education for about 12 years now and will continue to do so. I am very competitive and love a challenge. Each year I challenge myself and my students to score higher on the State Test. I am currently trying to get back in shape. I have been out of martial arts for several years now; and the many surgeries mentioned earlier makes it difficult to get back in it. I love spending time on the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the natural beauty around us here in Macon County. I have a wonderful wife named Heidi and four sweet cats named: Buddy, Karie, Caspurr, and Oscar. |
